Step 1: Bench Mounting and Fuel Setup
Before running your engine for the first time, securely bolt it onto a rigid wooden or aluminum test stand. Never attempt to break-in an engine hand-held or in an unreinforced airframe.
Step 2: Rich Needle Setting
Open the high-speed needle valve 2.5 to 3 full turns counter-clockwise from closed. Connect 10%-15% nitro fuel with high-quality synthetic/castor oil blend for optimal lubrication.
Step 3: Initial Heat Cycles
Start the engine using a high-torque 12V electric starter. Run at full throttle in a rich 4-cycle burble for 2 minutes, then shut down to cool completely. Repeat this thermal cycle 4 to 5 times for optimal compression ring seating.
Step 4: Final Needle Fine-Tuning
Lean out the needle valve 2-3 clicks at a time while listening to the RPM rise. Peak the RPM, then back off 200 RPM rich for safe in-flight operating temperatures.
